This course is mandatory for obtaining the PER degree and has a minimum duration of 12 hours, at least 8 of which must be practical with simulators. This course, if approved, should not be done for higher qualifications. The syllabus of this course will be the following:

• General knowledge of radio communications in the Maritime Mobile Service
• Knowledge and ability to use the radio equipment of a ship
• Procedures for the operation of the GMDSS and detailed practical use of GMDSS subsystems and equipment
• - Procedures for the operation and regulation of radiotelephone communications
